Ravens: J.K. Dobbins out for year with torn Achilles
Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens will be without starting running back J.K. Dobbins for the rest of the year. Dobbins tore his Achilles in Baltimore’s Week 1 win over Houston, ending his season.

2023 was supposed to be a comeback/breakout season for Dobbins of sorts. The Ohio State product has dealt with injuries the last three seasons, missing all of 2021 and most of 2022. Now, 2023 will become another lost season in his young career. This was the final year of Dobbin’s rookie contract with the Ravens, and now it is fair to question if his time in Baltimore is over.

Dobbins was a second-pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Ravens, and it appeared they found the perfect backfield partner for Lamar Jackson, rushing for 805 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie. Since then, Dobbins has been limited to 544 yards and three touchdowns, including Sunday’s performance.

Where do the Ravens go from here?

Baltimore currently has Gus Edwards and Justice Hill to take some snaps in Dobbins’ absence. The Ravens are also activating veteran Melvin Gordon from their practice squad, giving him another shot in the NFL.

Having to deal with major personnel changes after just one game while working through the installation of a new offense is tough. The Ravens could see even more growing pains as the season progresses. The first game of the season did not provide the instant change some were hoping for, and that was a little bit concerning. The load of the offense could once again fall on Lamar Jackson to do everything himself.
