Rookie Tight End Dalton Kincaid Was A Star At Bills OTAs
Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills set out to find some pass-catching upgrades for their offense this offseason. In the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, they accomplished that goal. However, it was not in the way that many envisioned.

Heading into the offseason, the prevailing thought was that the Bills would be adding a wide receiver. The team was looking for a more consistent option behind Stefon Diggs on the depth chart as Gabriel Davis remained a bit boom or bust in Year 3. Heading into the final year of his contract, no one knows what the future holds for Davis.

Alas, it wasn’t a wide receiver that the Bills ended up selecting; they missed out on that first-round run. Instead, they pivoted to Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid. Buffalo made a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars to move up, getting ahead of the Dallas Cowboys, who were rumored to be looking into tight ends with their pick.

There are some high expectations for Kinkaid in his rookie season as some analysts think he will make an immediate impact. That is certainly a bold prediction as the Bills have Dawson Knox entrenched as their starting tight end and the position is notoriously difficult for players to transition from college to the pros.

During his first taste of the NFL, Kincaid turned some heads. Veteran pass rusher Von Miller, who is continuing his rehab from an ACL tear, said, “this Dalton Kincaid kid is insane.” Star quarterback Josh Allen has also been impressed, referring to Kincaid as a very bright kid.

While offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey did throw some cold water on the situation, saying it won’t be until training camp that they can feel how to really use Kincaid, he is off to a strong start. Catching the eye of respected veterans such as Miller and Allen is never a bad thing as he looks to become an integral part of this offensive attack.
