Saints sign three-time Pro Bowl QB Andy Dalton to one-year deal worth up to $6M

With Trevor Siemian recently agreeing to a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen saying that Taysom Hill will be focusing on playing tight end in 2022, a spot as Jameis Winston's backup was seemingly up for grabs. That slot has now reportedly been filled by Andy Dalton.

Dalton and Siemian are essentially swapping roles, as the former moves from the Bears' backup gig to the same role in New Orleans, while Siemian spent much of last year as the Saints backup and is now in line to be Justin Fields' second in command in Chicago. New Orleans re-signed Winston to a two-year contract earlier this month, and he is reportedly on track to be ready for training camp in his return from last year's torn ACL.

A three-time Pro Bowler during his days with the Cincinnati Bengals, Dalton played in eight games last season with the Bears (making six starts) and produced a 63.1% completion percentage with 1,515 passing yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions. In 152 career regular-season games (148 starts), Dalton has posted a 77-69-2 record as a starter with a 62.2% completion percentage for 35,279 passing yards, 226 passing touchdowns and 135 interceptions.

Following nine seasons with the Bengals, the "Red Rifle" spent the 2020 campaign with the Dallas Cowboys. Dalton signed a one-year, $10 million contract with Chicago in March 2021.
