Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers elevated  two defensive linemen on Saturday before their matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The 49ers had disappointing news for one of their defensive linemen before the Super Bowl.

The San Francisco 49ers had two DTs battling injuries this week

Defensive tackles Arik Armstead (knee/foot) and Kalia Davis (ankle) came into the week on the injury report. Davis was ruled as questionable to play. Armstead was cleared to play in the Super Bowl after being a full participant in practice on Friday.

Kalia Davis is out for the Super Bowl

Per the NFL’s website, the 49ers downgraded Davis to out for the Super Bowl. Davis was a full participant in all three 49ers’ practices this week. The 49ers elevated defensive end Alex Barrett and defensive tackle T.Y. McGill for their game against the Chiefs.

A frustrating way to end the season

Davis hoped to return for the Super Bowl. He was placed on injured reserve following the 49ers’ December contest against the Arizona Cardinals. Finishing on injured reserve for the Super Bowl is a frustrating way for the defensive tackle’s second season to end.
