San Francisco 49ers fans reacted to one of their legendary players announcing retirement during the 2023 NFL regular season. Former 49ers and Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould announced his decision to retire from the NFL on Thursday.
Gould came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played with the Bears for the 2005-15 seasons and made a Pro Bowl appearance for the 2006 campaign. Gould had a stop in 2016 with the New York Giants before finishing his career with the 49ers from 2016 to 2022.
Gould was known for his postseason success as a kicker. He was a part of the 49ers team that made it to Super Bowl LIV. He made both of his field goals in that game. Gould made a game-winning kick against the Green Bay Packers for the 2021 season to lead them to the NFC Championship game.
Gould made all four of his field goal attempts against the Dallas Cowboys in the last postseason to get the team to the NFC Championship Game.
Fans will remember Gould fondly in San Francisco. Here are the best takes from fans on Gould’s retirement from the NFL.

Going to miss hearing good as Gould. Congrats on a great career

Counter-Factual: The @ChicagoBears keep Gould his whole career. The Double-Doink never happens. The Bears beat the Rams (again) the next week and go on to win the Super Bowl. @Mtrubisky10 becomes biggest Chicago sports hero since Jordan. Years of success continue to this day.
