Seahawks GM provides concerning injury update about Jamal Adams

The status of Seahawks safety Jamal Adams remains up in the air in the wake of the star safety suffering a season-ending quadriceps tear in a Week 1 victory against Denver last season. Seattle general manager John Schneider has not provided a timetable for his return and recently indicated he may not be ready for training camp.

"The company answer is we don't know exactly, you know the timeline," he said Thursday on "The Rich Eisen Show." "We want to be really careful with his progression, so training camp, I'm just not sure. We'll just see where he is when he comes in for the OTAs (offseason training activities)."

Schneider and the Seahawks exercising caution is the right move here because injuries have hampered the 27-year-old safety across his NFL career. Adams has missed 25 games over the past three seasons. His quadriceps tear is particularly concerning because it requires a lengthy recovery period. Per The American Academy of Orthpaedic Surgeons, recovery can last four to 12 months, so returning Adams to the field too early could cause problems down the line.

That said, Seattle is hoping Adams can return sooner rather than later because he is an elite player when he's healthy. He's made three Pro Bowls in five seasons with the Jets and Seahawks and set an NFL record for sacks by a DB with 9.5 in 12 games during the 2020 season.

However, it appears the Seahawks might be prepping to start training camp without Adams since they're adding depth to their secondary. Seattle signed former Giants safety Julian Love, a 25-year-old, four-year veteran, in free agency. It also selected Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Ultimately, the Seahawks still hope Adams can return during the regular season and recapture his Pro Bowl form.
