Seahawks Pro Bowl safety Quandre Diggs looking to be 'fairly compensated' in free agency

Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs plans on being ready to go for the start of the 2022 season. Whether he will still be in the Pacific Northwest remains to be seen.

The 29-year-old is in full recovery mode after breaking his leg and dislocating his ankle in the Seahawks' regular-season finale and having surgery shortly thereafter, looking to put together another strong campaign after back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons. Diggs is also set to become a free agent for the first time in his career and said via the team's website he'll return to the team "if it works out" for both parties.

"No question," Diggs said of wanting to return, adding: "If we can make it work and it works out for both sides, and I feel fairly compensated knowing that I’m a two-time Pro-Bowler, [received] All-Pro votes, and one of the best, if not the best free safety in the NFL —I have to be compensated as well, and I feel like I did everything the right way to be compensated as well. If it works out and they say they want to do it, let’s get it done."

It isn't currently clear what figure Diggs will ask for — although, judging by his comments, it's fair to wonder how hard he is eyeing something close to teammate Jamal Adams' salary

Whatever that number may be, Seattle would be smart to work something out with Diggs. The Seahawks defense didn't fare well in the regular season even with Diggs' Pro Bowl effort, and letting him go to another team could only make rebounding from a disappointing 2021 campaign that much harder.

As Pro Football Talk and other outlets have already pointed out, the franchise tag is one option the Seahawks could use to keep Diggs around while the two sides try to hammer out a deal.

With the current NFL postseason still going and talks not likely ramping up until after the Super Bowl, those discussions between Diggs and the Seahawks are likely still a ways from taking place.
