Seahawks Sign Veteran OT in Unexpected Reunion

The Seattle Seahawks are bringing back a familiar face that they took a chance on nearly a decade ago.

Per reports from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks are signing Houston Texans offensive tackle George Fant to a deal.

"Blast from the past: The #Seahawks also agreed to terms with veteran OT George Fant, who got his NFL start with Seattle in 2016," Pelissero tweeted.

Fant, 31, went undrafted out of Western Kentucky in 2016 after having just one season of collegiate playing experience, but the Seahawks were impressed with him after watching a pre-draft workout and signed him as undrafted free agent. The former four-year Division I basketball player made his NFL debut in 2016 and never looked back.

Fant appeared in 14 games and made 10 starts as a rookie in Seattle. He also started both of the Seahawks' playoff games that year. A torn ACL kept him out for all of 2017 but he returned and played with the Seahawks for two more seasons, making 14 starts across 32 appearances in 2018 and 2019. He caught one pass for nine yards as a Seahawk.

He then signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the New York Jets in 2020. Fant played three years in New York, making 36 starts in 37 games with the team.

Fant protected rookie star quarterback C.J. Stroud this past season during a surprise season for the Houston Texans.
