Steelers Hosting Intriguing QB Prospect on Pre-Draft Visit
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Steelers are hosting BYU QB Jaren Hall on a pre-draft visit on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

Hall is one of the three players that are in the facility on Wednesday, with Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed and California safety Daniel Scott both coming to the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex as well. Likely on the final week of their pre-draft visit tour, the Steelers are getting a look at another quarterback.

Hall, 25, is on the older side of any prospects having done a mission before playing at BYU. He took over for Zach Wilson after he left for the NFL Draft. In his seasons starting with the Cougars, he racked up over 6000 yards passing with a touchdown to interception ratio of 52 to 11. His best season came this past year in 2022, posting over 3000 yards along with 31 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions.

Pittsburgh got to see Hall down the Senior Bowl in Mobile. He is the second Senior Bowl quarterback to get an invite up to Pittsburgh as Houston quarterback Clayton Tune also visited the facility. There is no quarterback depth behind Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett for the Steelers. Oftentimes, they will head into training camp with at least four quarterbacks. They just have two rostered with Mason Rudolph as a free agent.

The Steelers didn’t send much offensive staff to Mobile, with Mike Tomlin, Brian Flores, Grady Brown and Denzel Martin representing the team the team at the Senior Bowl. It seems they want to see these quarterbacks up close and personal for a closer look overall.

They have options for the third quarterback, whether that comes through the NFL Draft or the late free agency period at this point is anyone’s best guess. Hall and Tune are both players that could be looked at as Pickett’s backup in future seasons after Trubisky potentially leaves after the 2023 season.
