Steelers LB T.J. Watt can surpass brother on all-time list on 'TNF'

Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. Watt can surpass his older brother J.J. Watt on an all-time list in the team's "Thursday Night Football" matchup against the Titans.

T.J., who is appearing in his 94th game career game in Week 9, can pass J.J. (87.5 sacks) for the second-most sacks by a player in his first 100 games since the individual sack became an official statistic in 1982, per Steelers Depot.

T.J. currently has 86 career sacks, meaning he needs two sacks against Tennessee to officially surpass J.J.

To add a little more fuel to the fire, J.J. will be in attendance to watch his younger brother attempt to break his record.

"We're going to the Steelers game ... I'm looking forward to it," J.J. Watt said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "I do want to wave a towel. I'm looking forward to waving a towel."

J.J. retired following the 2022 season, finishing his career with 114.5 sacks. T.J. still has a way to go until he can pass him on that list, but will surely take any bragging rights he can get over his older brother who was a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2012, 2014-15).

T.J., the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is searching for his second such award in 2023. He is off to a great start with the third-most sacks (8.5) and eighth-most forced fumbles (2) in the league. He also has six passes defensed and an interception, which aided a Steelers comeback win against the Rams in Week 7.

Pittsburgh will need T.J. to be a difference-maker on defense once again in Week 9 following an ugly loss to the Jaguars a week ago. He's certainly set up to do so as rookie QB Will Levis, Tennessee's 2023 second-round pick, will start as QB Ryan Tannehill recovers from a high-ankle sprain.
