Super Bowl King of Props: Purdy looking sturdy

As the premier betting event in all of sports, the Super Bowl has been attracting gamblers to Las Vegas for more than a half-century. But this 58th edition holds special significance because the city is hosting the game for the first time.

Home to the “Black Hole” when the Raiders are playing, Allegiant Stadium will be awash in the other color on the roulette wheel for this championship rematch between Kansas City and San Francisco. The 2020 meeting featured the Chiefs overcoming a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to earn a 31-20 victory. Having now claimed a fourth AFC crown in the last five years, they’re looking to take down the 49ers again — but this time as slight underdogs.

The King of Props has likewise been enjoying a run of success, winning both bets on the conference title games and five of his last six overall. In the run-up to the Super Bowl, he provides his favorite investment opportunities right here on Yardbarker.

Bet No. 1: Over 11½ rushing yards for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (FanDuel)

Before he became “Mr. Irrelevant” by being selected with the last pick in the 2022 draft, Purdy was a four-year starter at Iowa State. Although sacks count as negative rushing yardage in college football, he still averaged 25 yards on the ground per game and ran for a total of 1,177 yards and 19 touchdowns over his career.

In his second pro campaign, Purdy has used his legs when needed. His highest rushing total was 57 yards in a regular-season loss to the Bengals, and he has cleared this number five other times, including in both playoff games. Last week’s comeback win over the Lions saw him scramble for 21 yards on two separate occasions and finish with an official total of 48 (kneel-downs cost him four yards).

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have surrendered considerable rushing yardage to all three opposing quarterbacks in this postseason. A big number might be expected from the Ravens’ Lamar Jackson (54) and the Bills’ Josh Allen (72), but even the Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa ran for a season-high 25.

Since the stakes couldn’t be higher than a Super Bowl in Vegas, Purdy figures to go all-in for some significant runs.
