Titans activate star safety Kevin Byard from reserve/COVID-19 list

The Tennessee Titans fell to 8-4 on the season via a loss at the New England Patriots back on Nov. 28 ahead of their bye and encountered a different type of setback when they placed star safety Kevin Byard on the reserve/COVID-19 list. It was reported at the time Byard was one of a handful of NFL players who tested positive for the coronavirus on the final Monday of November, and that put his status for this coming Sunday's matchup against the 2-10 Jacksonville Jaguars up in the air.

It appears Byard is on track to take the field this weekend.

Cecil Joyce noted for the Nashville Tennessean that the Titans have activated Byard from the reserve/COVID-19 list. The 28-year-old previously said he was fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, and the length of time between his reported positive test and the Jacksonville game always made it likely he'd be available this Sunday. It probably won't be known until Wednesday, at the earliest, if he's dealing with any lasting impacts of a virus bout that could slow him versus the Jaguars.

Per ESPN stats, Byard is tied for third in the NFL with five interceptions on the season. He's also contributed 64 total tackles, two defensive touchdowns, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 12 pass breakups.
