Titans' Mike Vrabel addresses Will Levis, Ryan Tannehill situation

Head coach Mike Vrabel spoke with reporters following the Tennessee Titans' 20-16 loss at the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night and declined to name a full-time starting quarterback between rookie Will Levis and injured veteran Ryan Tannehill.

"No, I'm not ready to do that yet," Vrabel responded when asked Friday if he's making Levis his QB1, per Jim Wyatt of the Titans' website. "I think we'll have a conversation about the depth chart over the weekend, and we'll have a depth chart or something close to it available when we talk to you on Tuesday to be able to go through the moving parts of not only Ryan's health, but (other positions as well)."

Tannehill hasn't played since he suffered an ankle injury in the Week 6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens that preceded Tennessee's bye. The 35-year-old is in the final months of his contract and presumably won't be re-signed by the Titans this coming offseason.

Levis, meanwhile, was drafted with overall pick No. 33 this past spring and completed 19 of 29 passes for 238 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in a 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. The 24-year-old somewhat came back down to earth against the Steelers, as he connected on 22 of 39 pass attempts for 262 yards with no scores and an interception at Acrisure Stadium.

According to Turron Davenport of ESPN, Levis produced impressive numbers while facing constant pressure in front of a primetime television/streaming audience:

"When Ryan is healthy, I'll have a decision for you," Vrabel added during his comments.

The Titans fell to 3-5 on Thursday evening and may need to be realistic about their playoff chances beginning with a matchup at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-4) on Nov. 12. Even if Vrabel truly believes Tannehill gives the team the best chance to win, seeing how Levis responds to his first pro loss as a starter could be what's best for everyone involved regarding Tennessee's future beyond Week 18.
