Tom Coughlin delayed hospital visit despite suffering broken ribs, punctured lung in bike crash

In a development that will surprise literally nobody who followed Tom Coughlin's NFL career, it seems the 73-year-old former New York Giants head coach and Jacksonville Jaguars executive vice president of football operations is tougher than we mere mortals.

On Thursday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter reported that Coughlin suffered four rib fractures, a slightly punctured lung and a head laceration after a bicycle crash last weekend.

Per the report, "Coughlin first went home before his family convinced him to go to the Baptist Health emergency room, where he underwent X-rays and a CT scan." He was hospitalized one night and will require up to a month-and-a-half to fully recover.

Coughlin coached the Jaguars from the club's expansion season in 1995 through 2002, and he became Giants head coach in 2004. He guided Big Blue to a Super Bowl XLII upset of the 18-0 New England Patriots and then led the Giants to a Super Bowl XLVI win over New England. Coughlin and the Giants parted ways in January 2016.

He became an executive with the Jaguars shortly afterward.

Stay safe and stay well, coach; although we probably don't have to tell you.
