Troy Brown to Serve in Skills Development Role

It was known Troy Brown would be part of the New England Patriots staff in 2024. However, his official role was not announced. New England hired Jerod Mayo as their head coach. Weeks later they introduced their three new coordinators. The Patriots held a press conference to announce new coaching hires on Feb. 19, 2024. Mayo announced earlier today that Brown would serve in a skills development role with the team.

Last season Brown worked with wide receivers and return specialists. However, Tyler Hughes and Tiquan Underwood now have the titles of wide receiver coach and assistant wide receivers coach respectively. Mike Pellegrino (cornerbacks) and Brian Belichick (safeties) are also holdovers from the 2024 staff, but they remain in their previous roles.

“He’ll work with the players,” Jerod Mayo said of Brown’s role in New England moving forward. “He’ll work with the skill players, and also work with the scheme on the offensive side of the ball.”

Troy Brown enjoyed a legendary playing career with the New England Patriots. He was drafted in the eighth round (No. 198 overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft. He played his entire 15-year career in New England. Brown played in five Super Bowls, winning three. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2001 when he caught 101 passes for 1,199 yards. Troy Brown has been inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame.

Brown joined the Patriots coaching staff in 2020. He worked with running back (2020), wide receivers (2021-2023) and return specialists (2020-2023). Last season he helped serve on the staff for the East-West Shrine Bowl, a game featuring future Patriots DeMario Douglas and Atonio Mafi. Earlier this year Brown served as an offensive coordinator in the Reese’s Senior Bowl. The game featured many of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft.
