Vikings UFA profile: LB Nick Vigil
Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

With the 2023 season in the books, Inside the Vikings will be taking a look at all 22 of Minnesota's pending unrestricted free agents over the next couple weeks. We'll examine their past and speculate about their future, particularly the likelihood that they could be re-signed by the Vikings this offseason. We'll start from the least important (Hakeem Adeniji) and work our way up to the big fish (Kirk Cousins).

UFA profile: LB Nick Vigil

  • Age: 30
  • 2023 stats: 2 tackles
  • 2023 contract AAV: $1.165 million

Vigil was a third-round pick by the Bengals back in 2016. He spent four seasons in Cincinnati and one with the Chargers before signing with the Vikings in 2021. He started 12 games for Mike Zimmer that year and played over 700 defensive snaps. Vigil was with the Cardinals in 2022 but got hurt, spent last August with the Jets (he was waived), and then returned to Minnesota for a second stint. He was on the practice squad for the first half of the year and the active roster after that.

He never played a down on defense for Brian Flores, but Vigil was a special teams regular for Matt Daniels in the second half of the season, playing 115 snaps in that phase across eight games. That skill figures to be the primary reason why he'll get another job somewhere in 2024 (probably not with the Vikings). Vigil's days as a starting linebacker might be done, but he might be able to make someone's 53-man roster next fall as a special teams player and depth LB with experience.
