The Washington Commanders upgraded their backfield

The Commanders made one of their biggest signings in free agency this offseason when they added former Los Angeles Chargers star Austin Ekeler. Ekeler is a great dual threat out of the backfield for whoever their choice at quarterback will be this fall. However, the team still needed depth at running back before OTAs.

The Commanders signed Jeremy McNichols

According to a statement by the Commanders, the team signed running back Jeremy McNichols.

McNichols has gotten around the league

McNichols played for the 49ers in two stints, first during the 2017 season and then again during the 2023 campaign. McNichols was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He’s spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

At 28, McNichols has played in 37 games. He’s run for 364 yards and one touchdown in his six-year NFL career. He appeared in three games but had no offensive stats for the 2023 season.
