Which Players Should the Jaguars Let Test Free Agency?
USA TODAY Sports

Three weeks from today, the entire landscape of the NFL will change once more as all 32 teams jockey for position during free agency.

But while most talk is surrounded on which players should be re-signed and which players should be pursued, there is rarely talk about which players teams should simply let walk away.

So which current pending free agents should the Jaguars let test free agency? We take a look at a handful of options below.

K'Lavon Chaisson

The Jaguars had high hopes when they took K'Lavon Chaisson with the No. 20 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he has produced just five sacks in 57 games since then. Chaisson has been given chances as both a starter and as a key backup, but he hasn't been able to capitalize on them yet.

As much as the Jaguars surely wanted to extract some value out of Chaisson during his rookie contract, it just never happened. And instead of re-signing him and hoping once again that the light bulb comes on, the Jaguars should accept that any success he has will likely come away from Jacksonville. It is time for them to move on and address the pass-rush depth in a different way.

Jamal Agnew

Don't get it twisted: Jamal Agnew was electric for three seasons as a Jaguar. He was one of the best kick or punt returners in the NFL over the last three years and also displayed big-play ability when used in the right way on offense. There were a lot of weeks where the biggest play of the game were either produced by Agnew or sparked by one of his big returns.

But the Jaguars aren't in the position they were in during the 2021 offseason. They could afford to pay big for a returner and part-time receiver then. Now, though, the Jaguars' cap situations means they are likely better off relying on sixth-round pick Parker Washington and his significantly smaller contract to fill Agnew's role.

Brandon McManus

2023 was a tough year for Brandon McManus. After one of the worst years of his career in 2022, McManus failed to show rebounded consistency in 2023. He started the season 20-of-22 in the first 10 games and only missed a field goal in one game -- twice in Week 3. Once Week 12 hit, though, McManus struggled and made just 10-of-15 field goals.

The Jaguars could bring McManus back and hope that he can regain his consistency. He showed a big leg and gave the offense and Doug Pederson a lot of flexibility when he was on. But considering where he is at in his career, it seems likely that the good days are over.

Blake Hance and Cole Van Lanen

The Jaguars need to add several offensive linemen in free agency and the draft, whether in the starting lineup or on the depth chart. There is a chance the Jaguars have three new starters along the interior offensive line, though there is also a chance they have zero. There is a chance Cam Robinson starts at left tackle, and there is a chance he is off the roster entirely.

In any of those scenarios, the Jaguars need to improve their offensive line depth. Cole Van Lanen has struggled when thrust into action in back-to-back years and can't be relied upon as offensive tackle depth, while Blake Hance didn't seem to have the goods as a swing tackle in 2023. Jacksonville's line needs a face lift, and that doesn't just mean the starters.

Angelo Blackson and Jeremiah Ledbetter

The Jacksonville Jaguars need to get younger up front. The Jaguars didn't get the job done in the trenches over the second half of the season, and it is more or less time to start from scratch when it comes to the bottom of the depth chart at the position.

DaVon Hamilton and Roy Robertson-Harris are set to stick around due to their financial situations, but there is room for snaps behind them. Foley Fatukasi's future could be up in the air, while Adam Gotsis is a depth option. The Jaguars need more snaps and probably a rookie in the group, which means no real room for veteran backups like Angelo Blackson and Jeremiah Ledbetter.
