WR Tyler Lockett is staying with Seattle Seahawks, restructures remaining two years on contract

The Seattle Seahawks are keeping their longest tenured player around for a couple more years.

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett and the Seahawks have agreed to a contract restructure for the final two years remaining on his deal. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that Lockett will earn $30 million with a max value of $34 million over that span, with nearly $13 million guaranteed in 2024.

There was heavy speculation that Lockett could be a salary cap casualty this offseason. Given that he is 31 years old and the fact that Seattle could have saved around $7 million by cutting him, it wouldn't have been shocking. However, the restructure cuts Lockett's original cap hit ($26 million) in half, which saves the Seahawks more money than releasing him.

Lockett is still a highly productive player, coming off a season where he caught 79 passes for 894 yards and five touchdowns. He ranks second behind Steve Largent in Seahawks all-time receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Lockett is first in team history in kick return yards and second in punt return yards.

Lockett makes up an impressive receiving trio for Seattle along with DK Metcalf and Jackson Smith-Njigba. Lockett has become less of a deep threat recently but is still one of the best route runners in the league and is a safety net for quarterback Geno Smith. The Seahawks have a little over $50 million in cap space heading into free agency.
