Avalanche working with law enforcement regarding threats to Nazem Kadri

The St. Louis Blues recently learned that they'll be without goaltender Jordan Binnington for the rest of their Western Conference semifinals series against the Colorado Avalanche due to a lower-body injury. The injury came after a nasty collision involving Avalanche center Nazem Kadri in Game 3.

Since the conclusion of the contest on Saturday night, Kadri has reportedly been facing heavy harassment from St. Louis fans. The issue has become serious enough that law enforcement has become involved, per ESPN's Greg Wyshynski.

The senior NHL writer reported Sunday night that the Avalanche are working with St. Louis law enforcement regarding threats made towards Kadri, who is a Muslim of Lebanese descent.

"On Sunday, hockey player Akim Aliu tweeted that he had spoken to Kadri and that the Avalanche center 'has been subject to so many racist attacks and threats since last night that police had to be brought in.' Aliu and Kadri are founding members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, an organization of current and former hockey players of color that is seeking to eradicate racism from the game," Wyshynski wrote. "'Racist attacks like this have no place in hockey and should be investigated and reported on,'" Aliu said.

Colorado, who leads the best-of-seven game series 2-1, issued a statement to the media on Sunday, saying "the Avalanche organization is aware of threats made toward Nazem Kadri and is working with local law enforcement to investigate."

Following their loss in Game 3, Blues head coach Craig Berube discussed the crash that led to Binnington's injury.

"Look at Kadri's reputation. That's all I've got to say," he said, referring to the former first-round pick's multiple playoff suspensions, including an eight-game ban for an illegal check to the head of St. Louis defenseman Justin Faulk in 2021.

There was no penalty called on Kadri following the play in question, and the league's Department of Player Safety determined there was no supplemental discipline necessary for him.
