Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson undergoes artificial disk replacement surgery

For the second time in as many months, an NHL player has undergone an artificial disk replacement surgery.

First , it was Jack Eichel shortly after being traded to the Vegas Golden Knights, and now, Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson has undergone the surgery, the team announced Friday.

“After trying to manage his neck pain conservatively for the past couple of weeks, Tyler underwent neck surgery today,” Dr. Michael Terry, the Blackhawks’ team doctor said in a statement. “The prognosis is good and his anticipated return to play is approximately three months.”

Eichel, meanwhile, began skating this week after undergoing his surgery Nov. 12.
