Blackhawks Recall Slavin, Send Kurashev to Rockford

On Monday night, the Chicago Blackhawks made a roster move that flew under the radar. The team announced they are calling forward Josiah Slavin up and sending forward Philipp Kurashev to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.

After a breakout 2021 season for Kurashev, the 22-year-old is struggling in 2021-22. In 19 games this season, the Swiss forward has only five assists. In 54 games during the shortened 2021 season, Kurashev tallied 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) and showed promise as a player with two-way potential.

As for Slavin, the Colorado College product has eight points (four goals, four assists) in 15 games for the Rockford IceHogs. Slavin joined the IceHogs at the tail end of the 2021 shortened season, and tallied seven points (three goals, four assists) in his first 15 pro games. Now, Slavin will have a chance to make his NHL debut in the coming games for Chicago.

Josiah Slavin is the younger brother of Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin. Josiah was a seventh-round pick in 2018 by the Blackhawks and spent two seasons at Colorado College before joining the organization.

The Blackhawks are back in action on Thursday, December 2. A trip to Washington DC to visit Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.
