Cam Atkinson helps Flyers breeze by Oilers
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Cam Atkinson scored two goals to lift the host Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.

Sean Walker and Joel Farabee added one goal apiece for the Flyers, who won their second game in a row and for the third time in four games.

Sean Couturier and Owen Tippett each contributed two assists.

Flyers goaltender Carter Hart made 22 saves.

Zach Hyman scored the lone goal for the Oilers, who have lost three of four games to open the season. Star forward Connor McDavid was held without a shot on goal.

Oilers goaltender Jack Campbell stopped 28 shots.

Atkinson's second goal of the contest at 4:17 of the third period gave the Flyers a 4-1 lead.

The Flyers then tightened defensively and limited the Oilers' offensive chances over the next 10 minutes to cruise to the finish.

Hart made a strong save on Warren Foegele's backhand shot at 17:18 of the third.

The Oilers didn't seriously threaten the rest of the way.

McDavid had a terrific chance at 14:46 of the first, but the play was broken up.

The Flyers went ahead 1-0 at 15:50 when Farabee connected on a snap shot that went past Campbell's blocker. Bobby Brink drew the primary assist with a nifty pass.

Philadelphia took a 2-0 advantage at 3:54 of the second when Atkinson redirected Tippett's shot. Atkinson scored on the backhand for his second goal of the season.

Edmonton nearly sliced the deficit in half at 4:23, but Hart made a stellar save on Foegele's snap shot.

The Oilers were awarded a power play at 10:22 when Cam York was whistled for holding. They generated some pressure in front of Hart but couldn't capitalize.

Edmonton stayed aggressive and closed within 2-1 at 15:23 when Hyman scored his second marker in as many games.

The Flyers regained a two-goal advantage at 3-1 when Walker skated in and fired a shot over Campbell's shoulder for a short-handed goal at 18:29 of the second.
