Canucks’ Filip Hronek caught on hot mic chriping Flames: ‘You have holidays in two days’

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Filip Hronek evidently knows perfectly well which teams are heading to the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs — and which ones aren’t.

Of course, the Canucks are locked into the top spot in the Pacific Division and could still catch the Dallas Stars for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. They’ve had a dominant season and are slated to make just their second playoff appearance since 2015.

On the other side of things, the Calgary Flames are nowhere near the playoff picture. The Flames traded pending free agents Tyler Toffoli, Chris Tanev, Noah Hanifin, Nikita Zadorov, and Elias Lindholm — the latter two to the Canucks — and have seemingly accepted their fate as a lottery team.

The Canucks and Flames met up at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Tuesday for the penultimate game of the regular season for both teams. As tempers started to flare on both sides late in the second period, a camera located between the two benches caught Hronek aiming a pretty ruthless chirp at the Flames’ bench — and the hot mic picked it up, too.

Hronek appeared to be talking to Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson — a renowned trash-talker himself — when he let loose the memorable line: “You have holidays in two days!”
