Capitals terminate Brendan Leipsic's contract after misogynistic remarks

The Washington Capitals have made a massive decision on the Brendan Leipsic front, and quite frankly, it was the only correct decision that could've been made.

Washington has placed Leipsic on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract, Capitals PR revealed Friday.

The 25-year-old had his private Instagram messages leaked on social media and was exposed for making hateful, misogynistic remarks in a group chat with his friends, including his brother Jeremy and Florida Panthers prospect Jack Rodewald earlier in the week.

Messages revealed Leipsic and company berated women about their weight and appearance while also insulting his teammates.

Leipsic later deleted his Instagram account and made an apology via Twitter.

While Leipsic has been released from Washington, his brother Jeremy also has been booted off the University of Manitoba men's hockey team due to his involvement in the chat. There's been no word on consequences for Rodewald, but it seems like he'll also be booted from the Panthers organization.

Leipsic had 11 points (three goals, eight assists) through 61 games this season with the Capitals.

This likely won't be the end of Leipsic's hockey career. Many players who have experienced similar consequences, like Slava Voynov to Leipsic have gone on to play in Russia's KHL.
