Take a bow, Nick Schmaltz.

In a wild game Saturday afternoon, the Arizona Coyotes forward chipped in seven of eight ‘Yotes goals as the club downed the Ottawa Senators 8-5.

With two goals and seven points, the 26-year-old set a franchise record for the Arizona Coyotes and the original Winnipeg Jets with the most points in a game. Truly an impressive feat considering the offensive firepower the original Jets had.

Schmaltz’s offensive outburst was the most points scored by a player in a game this season and the most scored by a player in 10 years, when Sam Gagner scored eight points with the Edmonton Oilers.

Quietly, Schmaltz has been having a very productive year in Arizona. Coming into Saturday’s game, he’s scored 12 goals and 26 points on the year with his .74-points-per-game clip the highest of his career. Now in his fourth year with the Coyotes, Schmaltz was acquired in a 2018 trade with the Chicago Blackhawks in which Arizona sent back Brendan Perlini and Dylan Strome.
