Evgenii Dadonov in Golden Knights lineup after voided trade

Forward Evgenii Dadonov and the Vegas Golden Knights will do well to embrace the lesson taught in the original "Godfather" movie: It's not personal. It's business.

One day after the NHL stepped in and canceled Vegas' trade of Dadonov to the Anaheim Ducks that had been announced Monday because Anaheim reportedly was on a no-trade list included in his contract, Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer confirmed the 33-year-old will be in the lineup for Thursday's home game versus the Nashville Predators.

"He's, one, a great person," DeBoer said of Dadonov, per the league's website. "I had him my first time in the NHL as a coach in Florida as a young player. Now I've got him back as a man and as a father, husband. I've seen both sides.

"The great thing about him is that if anyone can handle this situation, it's him. He's even-keeled. Nothing bothers him. He shows up. He works. He's a pro. I'm happy he's in our lineup tonight. I'm happy he's available. We need him. He's been playing well."

Thus far this season, Dadonov has recorded 15 goals and 12 assists across 62 games. His three-year deal worth $15 million that he signed when he was with the Ottawa Senators in October 2020 allows him to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2022-23 campaign.

Vegas will begin the evening fourth in the Pacific Division standings with 72 points, three points back of the third-place Edmonton Oilers and also a single point behind the Dallas Stars in the race for the conference's second wild-card playoff berth.
