Fehervary Among 3 Caps Earning Qualifying Offers Ahead Of Deadline
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Capitals have extended qualifying offers to three skaters ahead of Friday’s deadline, the team announced.

Defenseman Martin Fehervary is the lone Capital to receive a qualifying offer, while forwards Riley Sutter and Henrik Borgstrom, who spent most of last season with the Hershey Bears, were also qualified.

Fehervary, the No. 46 pick in 2018, led the Capitals in hits last season while contributing 16 points — six goals, 10 assists — in 67 games. He stands to be a key piece of the team’s blueline moving forward, based on prior comments from team general manager Brian MacLellan.

Sutter, the No. 93 pick in 2018, tallied 12 points in 69 games with the Hershey Bears last season, while Borgstrom, a former first-round pick of the Florida Panthers, accounted for 21 points in 55 games.

Borgstrom has already signed a two-year contract with HV71 in Sweden, but his contract includes an opt-out clause to join an NHL team, according to The Athletic‘s Tarik El-Bashir.

Not receiving qualifying offers from the Capitals were forward Kody Clark, the No. 47 pick in 2018, and defenseman Gabriel Carlsson, who signed with the Capitals organization as a free agent last offseason.
