Flyers name recently retired Chris Stewart player development coach

One day after forward Chris Stewart retired from the NHL as an active player, the Philadelphia Flyers named the 32-year-old their new player development coach.

Stewart made his NHL debut in December 2008 and spent time with the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames. He last played with the Flyers during the 2019-20 season.

Across 668 regular-season games, Stewart tallied 160 goals and 162 assists for 322 points. He also notched six goals and five assists in 39 Stanley Cup playoff contests.

"I've known Chris for a long time and have admired the way he plays the game, but also how he conducts himself off the ice as a true professional and leader in the locker room," Philadelphia general manager and team president Chuck Fletcher told the club's website.

"He will be a valuable asset to help mentor our young players and shape their future as Flyers."
