Golden Knights Place Laurent Brossoit on Waivers

The Vegas Golden Knights have placed goaltender Laurent Brossoit on waivers, the team announced on Thursday afternoon.

Brossoit, 29, has yet to see NHL action this season due to hip surgery in the spring, though he was recently assigned to the Henderson Silver Knights of the American Hockey League on a conditioning loan. His stay down there may be longer than he had originally planned if no teams choose to claim him over the next 24 hours.

By all accounts, Brossoit is a solid NHL backup netminder. Though his 2021-22 season with the Golden Knights left plenty to be desired, he proved during his time with the Winnipeg Jets prior that he is an NHL-caliber goaltender. That said, the great play of Logan Thompson and Adin Hill have made it impossible for the organization to do anything other than expose Brossoit on waivers.

While Brossoit would likely serve as an upgrade for several teams, he may have a tough time finding a new home due to his $2.325 million cap hit. With plenty of teams around the league struggling to create cap space, that salary may prove to be too big to take on. On top of that, his 6.76 goals against average (GAA) along with his .769 save percentage (SV%) in two starts with the Silver Knights may have some hesitant on whether or not he can get back to the same level he was at prior to his hip procedure.
