On Thursday night, Josiah Slavin made his NHL debut for the Chicago Blackhawks. Any pro sports debut is exciting, but the 22-year-old forward made it even more memorable with a huge play at a crucial time.

With his team down one goal in the latter stages of the third period, Slavin entered the zone and shielded the puck for a bit. He sliced through multiple Washington Capitals defenders, pulled the puck to the half-wall, and fed a perfect pass to the trailing Seth Jones.

The result? Josiah Slavin’s first NHL point, a primary assist, set up the tying goal as Jones ripped home a wicked wrister.

This scoring play came as Chicago trailed late after allowing the Capitals to take the lead just 57 seconds into the third period. The Blackhawks went on to win a shootout thriller by a final score of 4-3. To say Slavin’s setup was important would be an understatement.

Fresh off a Monday call-up from the AHL Rockford IceHogs, Slavin certainly won’t forget his first NHL contest.
