Kraken re-sign center Ryan Donato to one-year, $1.2 million deal

On Wednesday, the Seattle Kraken re-signed center Ryan Donato to a one-year, $1.2 million contract.

Donato, 26, played last season with the Kraken, joining the expansion club as a free agent. In 74 games, Donato posted a career-high 31 points (16 goals, 15 assists), averaging only 13:48 of ice time.

"Ryan elevated his game last season and we're happy to have him return to the Kraken," Seattle general manager Ron Francis said on Wednesday. "He completed a career year and will hopefully eclipse that in 2022-23."

The Boston Bruins selected Donato with a second-round pick out of Harvard in 2014. Making his NHL debut with the Bruins in 2017-18, Donato played parts of two seasons in Boston, tallying 18 points (11 goals, 7 assists) in 46 games.

During the 2018-19 season, the Bruins dealt Donato and a fifth-round pick to the Minnesota Wild for forward Charlie Coyle. Donato played 84 games over two seasons in Minnesota, finishing with 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists).

Donato was traded again during the 2020-21 season to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2021 third-round draft pick. He had 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists) in 50 games during his short stint with the Sharks.
