The LA Kings have added a left-shot defenseman to their NHL roster, recalling Jacob Moverare from the AHL, the team announced on Tuesday. Concurrently, the team also placed Alex Iafallo on the Injured Reserve.
Iafallo appeared to injure himself late in the third period of the Kings’ 5-4 overtime in Detroit. The 28-year-old attempted to deliver a big hit in the corner but was later seen skating off without being able to put weight on his leg.
Here’s the play that forced Alex Iafallo to leave the game early.
You can see him skating gingerly off the ice toward the end of the clip. Hope to get an update later today.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/bs48AmBtoj

The injury comes at an unfortunate time because not only was Iafallo off to a terrific start this year, but his line with Quinton Byfield and Gabe Vilardi has been one of the most productive. At first glance, it would make sense to slot Arthur Kaliyev in Iafallo’s spot on the third line, but we’ll see what transpires there.
Moverare, 24, saw 19 games of NHL experience last year due to the number of injuries along the blueline. He collected two assists and a +3 over that span, giving the Kings valuable minutes while gaining meaningful experience in a playoff race.
Per Todd McLellan, the Alexes – Edler & Iafallo – will not be available this evening in Nashville, so we’ll expect at least one change among the skaters.
Cal Petersen will start in goal.

Zach Dooley is also reporting that Alex Edler, who took a puck to the face during warmups last night and did not return, will miss tonight’s game against the Nashville Predators.
Cal Petersen will get the start between the pipes.
