Leon Draisaitl, Cale Makar highlight first five players added to 2024 NHL All-Star Game by fan voting

After a handful of days for fans to cast their votes, five players have been added to the 2024 NHL All-Star Game.

Goaltenders Jeremy Swayman (Boston), Sergei Bobrovsky (Florida) and Alexander Georgiev (Colorado), defenseman Cale Makar (Colorado) and forward Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton) were named to the ASG lineup thanks to the NHL All-Star Fan Vote.

This is Makar’s third All-Star nomination. The former Norris Trophy winner has nine goals and 39 assists in 37 games this season with the Avalanche.

Drasaitl is going to be in the All-Star Game for the fifth time in his career. After scoring 128 points with the Oilers last season, the German star has 43 points in 38 games this year.

This is Bobrovsky’s second All-Star nomination, and first since 2017. The Panthers netminder is 21-9-1 with a 2.43 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and two shutouts thus far.

This will be the first All-Star Game appearances for both Georgiev and Swayman. Georgiev is 23-9-2 with the Avs, with a 2.88 GAA and .898 SV%, while Swayman has a 11-3-7 record with a 2.47 GAA and .920 SV% with the Bruins.

The first 12 Eastern and Western Conference All-Stars were announced earlier this month, with the league revealing that 12 more players (five skaters and three goaltenders) will be added based on how the fans vote.

With three goalies added, only two spots are left. A few days ago, Vancouver Canucks’ goaltender Thatcher Demko was leading all netminders, with Bobrovsky, Swayman and Georgiev all behind him.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander had previously been in the lead, with teammate Mitchell Marner and Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Petterson also in the top five in voting.

The All-Star Weekend will take place in Toronto from February 1st to 3rd, with the Player Draft happening on Thursday, February 1st at 6 p.m. EST, the Skills Competition being held on Friday, February 2nd at 7 p.m. EST, and the actual game occurring on Saturday February 3rd at 3 p.m. EST.
