Lightning acquire Tanner Jeannot from Predators
Tanner Jeannot Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired Tanner Jeannot from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Cal Foote, a 2023 third-round pick, a 2023 fourth-round pick, a 2023 fifth-round pick, a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 first-round pick (top-10 protected).

Jeannot has registered 14 points (five goals, nine assists), 85 penalty minutes and nine fighting majors in 56 games this season. He has racked up 213 hits this season as well, ranking fourth league-wide. During his 2021-22 rookie campaign, he notched 24 goals, which led all rookies, and 41 points in 81 games. While he was left off the finalists list, he butted his name into talks for the Calder Memorial Trophy. He shot at 19.4%, a major difference compared to this season, where he is shooting at a career-low 5.7%. Jeannot also set a Predators franchise record with 318 hits in a single season.

The Oxbow, Saskatchewan, product was listed as a new target on Frank Seravalli’s trade targets board at No. 29 ahead of the NHL’s trade deadline. Seravalli notes that Jeannot is, “a player with size, edge and someone who can contribute on the penalty kill.” Jeannot also brings the Bolts a cheap contract at an $800,000 average annual value. He is a pending restricted free agent this summer.

An undrafted NHL forward, Jeannot spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors, and he signed his entry-level contract in 2018. Throughout his four years with the Warriors, he registered 170 points (77 goals, 93 assists) in 267 games. Jeannot’s career has been one for the storybooks, going from undrafted to grinding in the ECHL and the American Hockey League with the Milwaukee Admirals and Chicago Wolves to making his NHL debut in 2020-21. His NHL totals include 34 goals and 28 assists for 62 points in 152 games.

Meanwhile, the Predators will obtain the services of Foote. Foote was drafted by the Lightning 14th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. The 24-year-old defenseman has registered three points (one goal, two assists) in 26 games this season. Foote won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2020-21. In 117 career regular-season games, Foote has registered four goals and 11 assists for 15 points to go along with 106 shot blocks and 162 hits. Foote carries a cap hit of $800,000.
