Maple Leafs trade G Petr Mrazek, No. 25 pick to Blackhawks for No. 38 pick

Near the end of the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks pulled off a trade.

The Blackhawks traded the No. 38 pick in the second round to the Maple Leafs for veteran goaltender Petr Mrazek and the No. 25 pick.

With the No. 25 pick, the Blackhawks selected defenseman Sam Rinzel out of Chaska High in Minnesota.

Last season at Chaska, he finished with 29 points (9 goals, 29 assists) in 27 games.

Rinzel also played for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL this past season, posting 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in 21 regular-season games. He went pointless in six playoff games.

Mrazek, 30, adds some goaltending depth for the Blackhawks. Last season with the Maple Leafs, Mrazek started 18 games, going 12-6 with a .888 SV% and 3.34 GAA.

A 10-year veteran, Mrazek has played for the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Maple Leafs.

Mrazek has two years left on a three-year, $11.4 million deal signed in 2021. He'll make a base salary of $4.2 million in 2022-23 and $4.4 million in 2023-24.
