Mario Ferraro’s personality would be perfect for the NHL’s Amazon show
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Amidst the many things being discussed at the GM meetings this week, one announcement is that the NHL and Amazon are partnering up to develop a series that will follow 10-12 NHL superstars and provide hockey fans with some insight of their day-to-day lives, as well as their personality. Much like the success of other sports doing partnerships like this, it’s also a strong way to introduce new fans to the sport and grow the game.

That’s left many to speculate who might be the players selected for the show. The fact that superstars were specified means we’re going to get a look at the league’s best players, but will that mean that we get to see more personality from players like Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnnon, who aren’t quite known for it? Or will players like that not be considered, and instead we get more of a look at some of the league’s more interesting personalities like David Pastrnak or Nikita Kucherov, or to an even lesser extent, William Nylander or Seth Jarvis.

In fact, maybe there are some players that aren’t considered stars that should be covered by this potential new series. Colby Cohen gave his example of a lesser known player who could be great for the show when they talked about the Amazon partnership on Daily Faceoff Live.

Colby Cohen: One name that I’m going to throw out at you is Mario Ferraro. He’s a guy who’s got a major personality, he’s big on social media, he’s not afraid to get on YouTube. He kind of sees what the future of a lot of this landscape looks like. He’s definitely going to have a career after hockey, whether it’s in media, TV, influencing online, whatever, but I think he’d be a great name.
