The New York Islanders have signed forward Hudson Fasching to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Monday afternoon.

Fasching, 27, collected 10 goals and 19 points in 49 games with the Islanders during the 2022-23 regular season. He appeared in all six of the Islanders’ 2023 playoff games against the Carolina Hurricanes but did not record a point.

The Islanders did not disclose the terms of Fasching’s new contract, but CapFriendly reported its value as being $775,000 for both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. The Apple Valley, Minn. product was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer upon the conclusion of his previous one-year deal.

The Los Angeles Kings originally selected Fasching in the fourth round (No. 118 overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft. Less than a year after they drafted him, the Kings traded Fasching to the Buffalo Sabres as part of a deal which saw Brayden McNabb head to L.A.

Fasching signed with the Sabres in 2016 after a productive three-year career at the University of Minnesota. The six-foot-three winger, who shoots right, appeared in 22 NHL games over parts of three seasons in the Sabres organization before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes in 2018.

After bouncing between the NHL and AHL with the Coyotes for four seasons, Fasching signed with the Islanders in 2022 as a Group 6 unrestricted free agent. He established himself as an NHL regular on Lane Lambert’s squad down the stretch after beginning the 2022-23 season with the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders.

Through 87 career games over parts of six NHL regular seasons with the Sabres, Coyotes, and Islanders, Fasching has collected 11 goals and 22 points. He’ll now be eligible to hit free agency in 2025.

With Fasching now signed, the Islanders have two regular forwards staring down unrestricted free agency this summer: Zach Parise and Pierre Engvall. They also need to make decisions on goaltender Semyon Varlamov and defensemen Scott Mayfield and Parker Wotherspoon.
