NHL best bets: Five props for Tuesday 3/7

Tuesday's NHL slate offers some tantalizing matchups, and our initial pass yielded quite a few targets. We whittled down our list to six names, and from that comes five prop plays for tonight.

Kris Letang over 2.5 SOG (+106 FD)

Kris Letang quickly popped up as a good shot target this morning, as Pittsburgh vs. Columbus was a natural first stop to find some prop value.

The Penguins should rack up the shots on net here, they're averaging nearly 38 shots per game at home while Columbus sees about 36 shots against them per game. The Blue Jackets are also one of the best targets for defensemen, so Kris Letang come on down.

Letang has gone over 2.5 shots in five of his last seven and four of his last five at home. Believe it or not, Letang's 8.0 attempts/game over his last five home games leads the team, so I'll gladly follow that type of volume at this price.

Letang had five SOG in his last meeting with Columbus.

Jack Eichel over 3.5 SOG (+112 FD)

This Vegas-Florida game figures to see shots galore, as Panthers games so often do. I like quite a few names here, namely William Karlsson, Aleksander Barkov and Sam Bennett. Those three are a bit too juiced for my liking, so Jack Eichel here at +112 becomes the right play for me.

We've higlighted it before, but Eichel is just so consistent on the road. He's gone over 3.5 shots in four of his last five and 12 of his last 17 as the visitor, averaging 4.3 SOG/game over his last 10.

While that's all nice and good, it's Eichel's rich history against Florida that puts this play over the edge. He had 10 SOG in the first meeting against the Panthers this season, and dating back to 2018, Eichel has 4+ shots in nine of 10 games. Sure, I can get behind that past success and back him again tonight.

Noah Dobson point (-115 DK)

I'd like to target Buffalo tonight. They've been generous to shots and goals all season, and considering they're on a back-to-back after a physical game against Edmonton and now on the road, they figure to be even looser this evening.

The Sabres have become one of the best defensemen targets, but rather than load up Noah Dobson's shots, I like him to get involved in a goal. He has a point in five of his last six at home and six of his last nine games against Buffalo. Defensemen have been racking up the points against the Sabres, and whether it's Eric Comrie or Ukko-Pekka Luukonen in net, both are goalies I'm fine fading.

Jordan Kyrou over 3.5 SOG (-105 DK)

Surely someone gets some shots off against Arizona here tonight, the Coyotes are allowing 38.5 shots per game at home over their last 10. St. Louis has had quite a few moving pieces since the deadline, but Jordan Kyrou remains and figures to be the focal point of the offense moving forward.

We're getting such reasonable odds on Kyrou's shots because he's gone over just once in his last six games. However, I don't care.

On the road, Kyrou has gone over 3.5 in four of his last seven, and he's leading the team in shot attempts with 6.4/game over his last five.

Two other factors make Kyrou a play for me. One, Arizona tends to hand out power play chances and Kyrou leads the Blues in power play shots. Second, Kyrou has had some nice games against the Coyotes this season, finishing with six and four SOG, tallying seven attempts in both games.

Cale Makar & Vince Dunn 1+ point each (+148 DK)

We end the night with a pair of defensemen logging a point, something they've been no stranger to of late. Cale Makar recently returned to the Avalanche lineup and got a point on Sunday. He's been so consistent on home ice this season, having registered a point in six straight and 68% of games this year.

Colorado really needs to snap this three-game skid, and a home game against a weak San Jose team skating on a back-to-back seems like the perfect recipe to me. Makar has four points in his last two against the Sharks.

We'll pair him with Vince Dunn of Seattle who gets the pleasure of facing a Ducks team allowing 3.6 goals per game on the road of late. Dunn has a point in all five career games against Anaheim and in six straight games overall. Dunn skates on the top power play, a unit that should have their chances tonight, making him a terrific candidate to grab a point this evening.
