No Update From Islanders On Matt Martin Following Early Exit Against Bruins

 New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy had little information on the status of Matt Martin after the forward missed most of the third period of the team’s 5-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night at UBS Arena.

“He got hurt on a play, but that’s all I know for now,” Roy said.

Martin’s final shift of the game began at 4:32 of the third period. The shift lasted for 23 seconds before Martin returned to the Islanders’ bench and did not touch the ice again.

With 11 shifts against the Bruins, Martin played a total of 6:37.

The 34-year-old, in his 15th NHL season, has missed 22 games this year. He sat out for more than six weeks from mid-November to late December while dealing with an upper-body injury.

With the Islanders having a day off on Sunday, there will not be a new update on Martin’s status until the practice on Monday morning.

If Martin is unavailable, the team can activate Hudson Fasching off long-term injured reserve to fill his spot.

Fasching has been out of commission since Jan. 25, when he suffered a lower-body injury against the Montreal Canadiens. The Islanders recalled Fasching from AHL Bridgeport earlier this week, where he was serving a conditioning assignment.

The Islanders’ win over the Bruins on Saturday was their third in a row.

Kyle Palmieri had a hat trick in the game. It was the third of his career and the second fastest in Islanders’ history.

At 26-20-14 and with 66 points, the Islanders are four back of the Tampa Bay Lightning of the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference and five behind the Philadelphia Flyers for third place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Islanders host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. EST at UBS Arena.
