Patrick Kane is looking like his old self with the Detroit Red Wings
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The hockey world wasn’t sure how Patrick Kane, 35 years old and now in his 17th NHL season, would look once he signed to play the rest of the 2023-24 campaign with the Detroit Red Wings. Would the three-time Stanley Cup champion, coming off a number of surgeries, be anywhere close to the player who wowed fans with his dynamic skill and ability to navigate through the offensive zone with the puck?

Now it’s become clear that he’s more than fit in. With 10 goals and 14 assists through 24 games this season, including the overtime winner on Thursday night against the Colorado Avalanche, there’s a case to be made that this is the best the 2015-16 Hart Trophy winner has looked in a number of years. With a 30-20-6 record and 66 points, good for the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, it will be interesting to see if Kane can keep it up as we get closer to the end of the season.

On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss Kane’s performance on Thursday night and how comfortable he looks in Hockeytown.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Kane has a six-game point streak and eight points in that span. It really does feel like the first time in over a calendar year that Patrick Kane really looks like himself.

Frank Seravalli: He’s been awesome, and he’s just under a point-per-game pace for the season. I said earlier this year, when he signed with the Red Wings, that he’d be playing at what would be an 85-point game over a full season. He’s not there yet, but I feel pretty good watching him play that he’ll get to that point.

He looks dangerous and that he enjoys Detroit.

Tyler Yaremchuk: It was classic Showtime, and it’s a Red Wings team that’s really looking like a legitimate playoff team.
