Despite a pretty good stretch of games from Drew O’Connor, the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned him and Drake Caggiula to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
It’s NHL trade deadline day and the Penguins have reportedly already made a move for the return of Nick Bonino, but nothing is confirmed.
O’Connor has played a career high 27 games at the NHL level this season and has been stellar over the last few.
In his 27 games played, O’Connor has scored five goals and three assists for eight points.
While averaging barely over nine minutes of ice per night, O’Connor has been earning every ounce of a regular role in the Penguins roster.
O'Connor has recorded a point in three of the last four games, including a pair of goals.
Caggiula was called up just for the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning and he played five shifts for 4:01.
It is very likely that this is just a paper move to solidify future maneuverability with AHL players and eligibility in both leagues.
