Predators blank Red Wings, extend point streak to 17
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Filip Forsberg scored the only goal with 5:14 remaining, Juuse Saros recorded his third shutout and the host Nashville Predators extended their point streak to 17 games by edging the Detroit Red Wings, 1-0, on Saturday.

Forsberg's 39th goal extended his goal streak to five games. He has six goals in the last five games and 10 over his last nine.

Saros notched the 23rd shutout of his career by making 23 saves. Roman Josi recorded his 54th assist and Gustav Nyquist added his 44th assist on Forsberg's goal.

The Predators (42-25-4) are 15-0-2 during their franchise record-breaking point streak. Nashville has won its last five games in regulation, including two straight shutouts.

Alex Lyon made 32 saves for Detroit (36-29-6), which was starting a five-game road trip. It had won three of its last four games.

The Predators had a 15-8 advantage in shots on goal during the first period. Both teams had a power play.

Seider and Forsberg squared off five minutes into the second period, resulting in five-minute fighting penalties for both players.

A short time later, the Predators killed off a Jason Zucker penalty, as Saros made a sparkling pad save against Joe Veleno.

Nashville also killed off a Josi penalty late in the period. Lyon made a quality save against Colton Sissons during a Nashville 2-on-1 situation. The Red Wings had a 9-7 edge in shots on goal during the period but it remained deadlocked.

Saros made a tough save on a Dylan Larkin slapshot with nine minutes left in regulation.

Just prior to the breakthrough goal, the Predators nearly got the puck past Lyon during a wild scramble in front of the net. Detroit was unable to clear the puck and Forsberg finally took advantage, flipping a shot beyond Lyon's reach from the right side.

The Red Wings put heavy pressure on Saros and the Predators' defense after Lyon was pulled for an extra skater with two minutes remaining but came up empty.
