Predators Training Camp Notes & Quotes 9/22: Colton Sissons, Two Injuries, and a Fast Paced Scrimmage

The Nashville Predators took the ice at Ford Ice Center Bellevue for their third day or training camp and second day of official on ice work. The players used the words "fun" and "fast" to describe day one of practice, and the second day continued at that pace.

The Scrimmage

Fans filled Ford Ice Center for the scrimmage excited to get their first look at a very different looking Predators roster under new head coach Andrew Brunette. Filip Forsberg and Ryan O'Reilly spent time together on a line with Cole Smith during practice and for several shifts of the scrimmage. Again today Luke Schenn and Roman Josi played together as well.

Joakim Kemell spent some time during the scrimmage playing with Zachary L'Heureux and Mark Jankowski, but the highlight play of the day was a quick between the legs pass and goal that earned plenty of cheers from the crowd and stick taps from the players.

Two other players who stood out in the first scrimmage? Luke Evangelista who generated some quality offensive chances and Yakov Trenin who made his physical presence known and scored a goal. Trenin is a player who could slot in in a few different positions as the preseason moves along.

Jake Livingstone on the scrimmage:

"It was good. It's pretty fast paced out there and as expected, everybody's excited to actually play hockey. We had couple of practices yesterday, so I was kind of excited to actually play some games and have some fun."

(There's that word again —"fun".)

Head Coach Andrew Brunette on his takeaway from the first scrimmage:

"First and foremost, I'm looking for the energy and enthusiasm of the game and our players. I thought that was pretty high. We wanted them to pressure the puck and play as fast as they could, and I thought they did a good job. We can nitpick all the little things, but we'll get better. For the first day I was really happy with the enthusiasm. I thought the guys looked like they were enjoying themselves out there and they worked and competed."

Colton Sissons Talks About Change

Colton Sissons is one of the longest tenured Nashville Predators player on the roster, and today we heard from him about the big changes this season.

Two Injuries to Note

Forward Juuso Pärssinen and defenseman Adam Wilsby did not practice today. Both as listed as day-to-day with lower body injuries. At 22-years-old, Pärssinen is generating a lot of excitement around Nashville after appearing in 45 games with the Predators last season in which he scored six goals and 25 points. He was injured in late February but returned for the last three games of the season.

Adam Wilsby, a 2020 fourth round pick for the Predators, played 72 games for the Milwaukee Admirals last season scoring one goal and 18 points. He had a strong performance in the Admirals postseason run playing 16 games and scoring two goals and 8 points. He and Spencer Stastney often played top defensive minutes for Milwaukee last season.

Fun Fact of the Day

Gustav Nyquist's daughter did a fantastic job of painting his toenails a beautiful shade of pink. He was very proud of her work today.
