Red Wings assign Luke Witkowski to Grand Rapids

The Detroit Red Wings assigned Luke Witkowski to the American Hockey League on Friday afternoon. Witkowski, 31, is a right-handed player who has lined up on defense and the wing during his long professional career. He played as a forward during Detroit’s 3–0 loss to the Calgary Flames on Mar. 12. With Tyler Bertuzzi eligible to return to action against the Seattle Kraken on March 19, the Red Wings saw fit to return Witkowski to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. In 43 games with the Griffins this season, Witkowski has three goals and seven points. The Red Wings will drop the puck with the Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Saturday evening at 10:00 p.m. ET.
