Ahead of their tilt against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings have recalled goaltender Calvin Pickard from the American Hockey League, the club announced via social media Wednesday. With fellow netminder Thomas Greiss still in COVID-19 protocol, Pickard, 29, will round out Detroit’s crease and is expected to serve as Alex Nedeljkovic’s backup Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena. In addition, goaltender Kaden Fulcher has been reassigned from the team’s taxi squad to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Through six NHL games this season, Pickard has posted a 2-1-1 record, a 3.16 goals-against average and a .874 save percentage with the Red Wings. As for his results in the AHL, the 6’1″ netminder has compiled 27 games with the Griffins in 2021-22, performing to a 13-8-6 record, a 2.40 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage and one shutout. Detroit will be looking to snap its two-game losing streak against Chicago on Wednesday, beginning at 7:30 pm ET.
