Report: Calgary Flames place Jordan Oesterle on waivers
David Kirouac-USA TODAY Sports

The Calgary Flames have seemingly made a move designed to shake up their blueline group a bit. Per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the club has placed defenceman Jordan Oesterle on waivers.

The 31-year-old Oesterle is a left-shot defender, and was the main addition to the Flames’ roster from outside the organization this past off-season, signed to a one-year, one-way deal worth $925,000. And you can understand the appeal: in over 300 NHL games Oesterle showed himself to be a pretty useful depth defender in a few different organizations.

But so far in Calgary, Oesterle hasn’t clicked with the Flames’ system. A healthy scratch for six of the club’s first 10 games, he’s posted zero points and a minus-2 rating while posting some underwhelming possession stats (36% xGF) in four games played. In short: Oesterle hasn’t quite worked as of yet in Calgary, and putting him on waivers would give the Flames the ability to swap him down to the AHL and potentially give somebody like Ilya Solovyov a longer NHL look.

We’ll see what happens when waiver wire results are reported on Friday at noon MT.
