Sabres’ Dylan Cozens day to day with upper-body injury

The Buffalo Sabres announced a slew of injuries Thursday morning. Forward Dylan Cozens is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, and forward Jeff Skinner and defenseman Mattias Samuelsson are also day-to-day with upper-body injuries.

Cozens last played on Jan. 15, 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks. Not a lot of details have emerged regarding his injury. Cozens has tallied seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 42 games this season. The Whitehorse, Yukon product is coming off a career year where he had 31 goals and 66 points earning himself a monster seven years. $49 million extension.

Skinner last played on Jan. 9 against the Seattle Kraken where he tallied one goal and one assist. The 32-year-old missed practice the following morning and the Sabres announced he would be out week-to-week. This season, Skinner has tallied 17 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 38 games. Skinner is currently in year five of an eight-year, $72,000,000 million extension he signed in 2019. The contract has an average annual value (AAV) of $9,000,000.

Samuelsson was injured during Sunday’s matinee game against the Vancouver Canucks after taking an elbow to the head from Filip Hronek. The 23-year-old has tallied one goal and six assists for seven points in 38 games. Samuelsson has struggled with injuries this season, leaving games in both October and November with lower-body and upper-body injuries. In 2022, the Voorhees, New Jersey product signed a seven-year, $30 million extension with the Sabres that kicked in this season and the contract carries an average annual value of $4.2 million.

Buffalo currently sits seventh in the Atlantic Division with a 19-21-4 record and 42 points through 44 games.
