Seattle Kraken sign Andre Burakovsky to five-year, $27.5M contract

The Seattle Kraken have signed forward Andre Burakovsky to a five-year deal worth $5.5 million per season, according to a report by TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Burakovsky, 27, is a two-time Stanley Cup champion who scored 22 goals and 61 points in 80 games with the Colorado Avalanche during the 2021–22 regular season. He added three goals and eight points in 12 playoff games with the eventual champs.

Burakovsky, who was born in Austria but represents Sweden internationally, was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round (No. 23 overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.

The 6-foot-3, 201-pound winger spent the first five seasons of his NHL career with the Capitals, winning the Stanley Cup with the team in 2018. The Caps traded Burakovsky to Colorado in 2019.

Burakovsky emerged as a top-six forward with Colorado, scoring at least 19 goals in all three of his seasons with the team. He wrapped up his tenure in Denver with 61 goals and 150 points in 191 games.

With Burakovsky in the fold, the Kraken have Jordan Eberle, Jaden Schwartz, Jared McCann, Yanni Gourde, Alex Wennberg, Burakovsky, Joonas Donskoi, Shane Wright, Matty Beniers and Karson Kuhlman under contract for 2021–22. Additionally, the Kraken have Morgan Geekie and Kole Lind as restricted free agents with arbitration rights.

Burakovsky has scored 123 goals and 295 points in 519 career games with the Capitals and Avalanche. He’s added 20 goals and 47 points in 93 career playoff appearances.
