Toronto Maple Leafs’ Conor Timmins out indefinitely with mono, Martin Jones out day-to-day

While Timmins, 25, hasn’t played since before the All-Star break, he would have gotten into Saturday’s contest against the Ottawa Senators if not for being sick, which we now know to be mono. Jones, 34, got the start in that game against the Sens, and while he played the entirety of that game, it’s likely he suffered the injury during that game and played through it.

Timmins hasn’t been able to crack the Leafs lineup too much this season, playing just 16 games where he has 1 goal, 5 assists and 6 points. That’s a 30-point pace over the course of a full season, so it’s solid production for a blueliner who hasn’t been able to get consistent playing time.

Jones has slowed down a little bit in recent weeks after a hot start to his Leafs career while filling in for the injured Joseph Woll. In 18 games this season, Jones has a 9-7-1 record, a .908 save%, two shutouts and 5.98 goals saved above expected.

Keefe also announced that both center David Kampf and defenseman Mark Giordano will be returning to the lineup on Thursday. Kampf, 29, has been out of the lineup since the All-Star break due to an undisclosed injury, while Giordano, 40, only missed Saturday’s game with a lower-body injury.

Kampf has struggled production-wise this season compared to his first two seasons as a Leaf, with just 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points in 46 games. That’s on pace for just 13 points if he plays out the full season, which would be the lowest point total in his career with a somewhat full season game total.

Giordano has also struggled offensively this season when he’s been in the lineup, with just one goal and five assists for six points in 34 games. That would be on pace for just 11 points should he play out the rest of the season, which would be the lowest point total in his career since his seven-game debut season in 2005-06.

The Leafs will look to bounce back from their 5-3 loss to the Sens when they host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Toronto currently sits in fourth in the Atlantic Division with a 26-16-8 record, which has them in the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
